Invitation to IFIE’s 20th Anniversary IAA Symposium

Dear Members of the Ishikawa Alumni Association:

How are you doing? I hope this e-mail finds you doing well. My name is Shuji Tanishi, and I am the Chief Managing Director of the Ishikawa Foundation for International Exchange (IFIE).
First of all, I would like to express my heart-felt appreciation for all of the warm messages, encouragement, concern, and support that you have extended to Japan since the Great East Japan Earthquake happened in March last year. Over a year has passed since the disaster, but it will still take a considerable amount of time for the region to fully recover, so I hope for your continued support.
It has been 14 years since the establishment of the Ishikawa Alumni Association (IAA) in 1998. With its headquarters in IFIE, the IAA was created to facilitate cultural and information exchange among its members and residents of Ishikawa. It is made up of people who previously lived in Ishikawa as students, trainees, or in some other capacity, and who have wanted to continue their connection with Ishikawa after returning home.
With that in mind, this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of IFIE, the headquarters of IAA. In commemoration of this, under the auspices of IFIE, we will be holding a symposium on October 20 (Saturday). We would like to extend an invitation to all of you and hope you can come join us in this symposium. It would be great if we could have people come from all over Japan and the world, but unfortunately, we do not have the budget to support everyone, and will not be able to subsidize travel expenses to Kanazawa. However, we will be able to subsidize costs for a 3-night stay (including breakfast) for those coming from overseas and a 1-night stay (including breakfast) for those coming from within Japan.
However, since we are on a budget, we will only be able to provide this offer to the first 30 applicants. If you are interested, please turn in the attendance form as soon as possible. The application deadline is June 15 (Friday). We have also attached a separate document with a tentative schedule of events for the symposium.
Please note that on October 21 (Sunday), the Ishikawa Kenmin Festa will also be happening. I hope you will come join us in this festival and enjoy the good food, country booths, and stage shows. I believe that this will be a great chance for you to come back to Kanazawa and meet some old friends. I sincerely hope you will consider attending this symposium. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Shuji Tanishi
Chief Managing Director
Ishikawa Foundation for International Exchange

Thank you so much for all of you who cooperated in voting.

"Shunran-no-Sato", a group of farmer’s guesthouses located in Noto-Town, Ishikawa Prefecture was recently chosen as one of the 12 finalists of the BBC World Challenge 2011, among more than 600 entries from all over the world. This project is an initiative of the British BBC World News and started 2005 for the purpose of commending grass-root projects from all over the world.

This is the remarkable achievement because it is the first time a Japanese project was chosen as one of the finalists.

The voting is now open to the public on the internet and it closes at midnight on November 11th. Access the following address to vote: (http://www.theworldchallenge.co.uk/).
The three winners will be announced after counting the votes.

If the "Shunran-no-Sato" project wins, it will bring many opportunities to the Ishikawa Prefecture, such as recognition of Ishikawa in the international society and increase in the number of overseas travelers.

Please vote for the Ishikawa’s project! We would appreciate if you could ask to the people of your company, family and friends to vote too!

* It is very simple! See the leaflet reverse for more details.
